Hand and footprints
Hand and footprints stand as some of the oldest imprints in rock art, dating back to prehistoric times. These ancient stamps are also found at various sites in Ladakh, where their antiquity is evident through barely visible or highly patinated older imprints alongside newer ones. The tradition of rock engravings, passed down through the ages, indicates prolonged use of these sites over time. One notable example is in the lower Indus sites of the Sham valley, where this tradition is vividly showcased. In places like Changthang, these imprints may represent signatures expressing ownership of a site or area.
